Tehran, Iran with Afarin Bellisario

Afarin Bellisario, author, technologist, teacher opens up about the city and country of her birth -- Tehran, Iran. As it turns out , in 1979 she was in Massachusetts as an M.I.T. graduate student when the Islamic Revolution caused the Shah to flee into exile. As amazing her story is, it’s only part of the total story. She tells us about pre-modern, feudal Iran and Tehran and the changes brought about by the 19th century advancements and the colonial pressure of both the Russians and the English. We touch on the fury of today’s headlines. Tehran has seen many versions of itself over time. We also touch on her novel Silenced Whispers, which covers a lot of this ground.
